Edo State University, Iyamho has officially welcomed 1,152 new students into its academic community during its 11th Matriculation Ceremony.
The colourful event, held at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium on campus, featured the administration of the matriculation oath and the signing of the matriculation register rites that formally admit the students as bona fide members of the university.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Victor O. Adetimirin, congratulated the newly admitted students and thanked parents and guardians for entrusting the institution with their children’s education.

He reflected on the university’s steady growth since its establishment in 2016, noting significant milestones such as the expansion of faculties and academic programmes, increased research capacity, and the development of the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi. He also highlighted the successful accreditation of the institution’s MBBS programme as a major achievement.
Professor Adetimirin expressed appreciation to the Edo State Government for its continued support and urged the students to embrace discipline, integrity, and hard work throughout their academic journey.
Delivering goodwill messages at the ceremony were Emmanuel Usoh, former Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Cooperative in Edo State, and Isaac Odigie Ohonsi. They advised the students to steer clear of drugs and other social vices, remain focused and determined, and allow the university to shape not only their intellect but also their character.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed assurance from the university’s leadership of its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and global competitiveness.
