The Governing Council of Edo State University, Iyamho, has approved the promotion of five academic staff members in recognition of their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, scholarly publications and community service.
The promotions were approved at the meeting of the Council’s Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC) held on June 16, 2026, as part of the institution’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence and strengthening its workforce.
According to a statement by the university, two academics were elevated to the rank of Professor. They are Professor Alexander Olawumi Dabor of the Department of Accounting and Professor Solomon Awuzie of the Department of English.
The Council also approved the promotion of three lecturers to the rank of Associate Professor. They are Associate Professor Godwin Ohiokha of the Department of Accounting, Associate Professor Wilson Ebhotemhen of the Department of Economics, and Associate Professor Ekhoye Ehitare Ikekhuaemen of the Department of Physiology.
The university said the promotions reflect its unwavering commitment to recognising staff who have distinguished themselves through excellence in teaching, impactful research, scholarly publications and dedicated service to the institution and society.
It noted that the elevation of the academics underscores the institution’s resolve to sustain high academic standards and foster a culture of merit and professional development.
The university community congratulated the newly promoted Professors and Associate Professors, wishing them continued success and greater accomplishments in their academic careers.
