Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Friday officially receive Deltans who were repatriated from South Africa following the recent wave of xenophobic attacks and present a state government support package aimed at helping them rebuild their lives.

The event, according to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, will take place at the Unity Hall, Old Government House, Asaba, on Friday, July 31, 2026, beginning at 12:00 noon. Invited guests are expected to be seated by 11:30 a.m.

Ahon said the reception forms part of the Delta State Government’s humanitarian response to support citizens who returned home after being displaced by the xenophobic crisis in South Africa.

He noted that the support package is designed to provide immediate relief to the returnees, helping to ease the challenges associated with their sudden return while reaffirming Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of Deltans, regardless of where they reside.

Government officials, stakeholders, traditional leaders and other invited guests are expected to attend the event, which reflects the state’s solidarity with its citizens affected by the unfortunate crisis and its determination to support their reintegration into society.
