The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of a man, Samuel Akove Adavize, for impersonating a car dealer and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.
According to a statement by the EFCC, the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Commission secured Adavize’s conviction on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, before Justice E.G. Adekambi of the Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin City.
The convict was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on impersonation, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents.
The EFCC disclosed that Adavize impersonated Chidi Mike Anyanwu, Managing Director of Chidi Mike Cars, using his identity and business name to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
Following the trial, Justice Adekambi found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the forfeiture of N400,000, identified as proceeds of crime, and an iPhone 12, described as an instrument used in committing the offence, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The court also ordered the permanent closure of the convict’s Opay and Sparkle Microfinance Bank accounts.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling financial crimes and bringing individuals involved in fraudulent activities to justice.
