The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to the minister, the public holidays will allow Muslims across the country to celebrate the end of the holy month of fasting and engage in prayers and festivities associated with the Islamic festival.
Eid al-Fitr signifies the conclusion of Ramadan, a period during which Muslims observe daily fasting, prayers and acts of charity.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the spiritual exercise and urged them to sustain the virtues of sacrifice, compassion, generosity and peace that define the Ramadan period.
He also encouraged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the unity, stability and continued progress of the country.
The minister assured citizens of the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security across the nation while wishing Muslims a joyful and peaceful celebration.
