Residents of Charismatic Road, located off Ekhenwan Road in Benin City, have commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, following his inspection of key infrastructure projects across the Edo South Senatorial District on Sunday.
The road project, now nearing completion at about 90 percent, features a combination of concrete and asphalt surfacing. According to officials, the initial section has been completed with reinforced concrete, while the remaining stretch has been asphalted. Comprehensive drainage infrastructure, including two water retention ponds, has also been fully delivered to address the area’s long-standing flooding issues.
Speaking to journalists, residents expressed satisfaction with the transformation of the once flood-prone road. Chief Joseph Amadasun, who relocated from Lagos four years ago, noted that the recent improvements have significantly changed living conditions in the area. He likened the governor’s performance to that of former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande, popularly known as “Baba Kekere.”
Amadasun said the area, previously notorious for flooding, remained dry even after recent heavy rains, describing the development as a testament to quality execution.
Another resident, Aliyu, who has lived in the neighborhood for seven years, remarked that the road had historically been impassable during the rainy season but has now become motorable and flood-free.
Mrs. Enoch also highlighted the durability of the project, pointing to the concrete portions of the road as evidence of improved construction standards. She added that residents can now move freely regardless of weather conditions.
During the inspection tour, Governor Okpebholo also visited Sapele Road to evaluate ongoing works and made a stop at the Christ Embassy Camp Ground to assess drainage construction quality.
