Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa, saying the relationship ended about a year ago.
Ekiye, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” made the disclosure in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday.
The Bayelsa-born musician said he had chosen to make the announcement after what he described as a period of “quiet acceptance.”
Although he did not disclose the circumstances surrounding the end of the marriage, Ekiye indicated that the separation had occurred about a year ago and that he had taken time to come to terms with the development before speaking publicly.
The announcement brings to an end nearly three decades of marriage, a period during which Ekiye built a prominent career in Nigeria’s gospel music scene.
