The Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) has resolved to strengthen partnerships and collaborations aimed at driving growth in Nigeria’s oil and gas as well as blue economy sectors, particularly in the Niger Delta.
The resolution was reached at the association’s congress held on Tuesday, August 18, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Complex in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Speaking at the congress, Chairman of EMR, Comrade Martins Giadom, said the association would develop more robust proposals to attract sponsors for its Live Roundtable programme and expand the initiative across more media platforms in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Giadom also disclosed that EMR would participate actively in the commemoration of relevant international days and strengthen its partnership with the Rivers State Government to promote the state’s rich but largely untapped blue economy potential.
The NUJ Vice Chairman, Kelvin Nengia, described Rivers State as a major hub of Nigeria’s blue economy and pledged the union’s support for the forthcoming Rivers EMR Conference and Awards Ceremony.
Nengia commended EMR for its partnership with the Dr. Membere-Otagi Foundation in sponsoring the annual Best Niger Delta Maritime Awards, urging the association to engage key government agencies and other stakeholders to secure broader support for its programmes.
The congress also resolved that EMR would intensify efforts to attract sponsorship, organise professional training programmes for its members, and foster stronger collaboration among its 11 chapters across the country.
The Rivers State Chapter further reaffirmed its commitment to increasing the visibility of the energy and maritime sectors in the Niger Delta while promoting initiatives capable of contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
