ASABA — The Delta State Broadcasting Service (DBS) in Asaba was inundated by floodwaters following a heavy downpour on Thursday, July 9, 2026, forcing the suspension of activities at the state-owned radio and television station.
Videos circulating on social media showed large volumes of water overflowing the station’s premises along DBS Road, sparking concern among residents and stakeholders over the extent of the flooding.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Government had not issued an official statement on the incident. Efforts to obtain comments from the State Commissioner for Information were unsuccessful as he was in a meeting.
“I will call you back, I’m in a meeting please”. Mr Charles Aniagwu said.
Workers and concerned residents have appealed to the state government to urgently intervene and address the situation, expressing fears over the disruption of broadcasting services.
According to reports, operations at the station were brought to a standstill as a result of the flooding. Sources also described flooding at the facility as a recurring problem that has persisted for years without a lasting solution from the relevant authorities.
The extent of the damage to equipment and infrastructure could not be independently verified at the time of this report.
