Sunny Areh, an associate of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has paid an emotional tribute to the late former governor, describing him as a boss, teacher and mentor whose legacy would remain indelible in the hearts of the people.

Uduaghan died on Monday, October 19, 2026, two days before his 72nd birthday, according to a tribute shared by Areh.

In the heartfelt tribute titled “My Boss Sleeps,” Areh expressed grief over the death of the former governor, describing it as a painful loss to Delta State and those who had the privilege of working with him.

He portrayed Uduaghan as a compassionate leader who governed with humility, listened to the people and pursued the development of the state with dedication.

“Delta weeps today. The stethoscope that once listened to the heartbeat of our state is still,” Areh wrote, drawing on Uduaghan’s background as a medical doctor to reflect on his leadership and service to the state.

According to him, Uduaghan’s approach to governance was defined by compassion, a listening ear and a commitment to addressing the needs of the people.

“You did not rule us, you treated us. You diagnosed our pains, you prescribed progress, you built with the patience of a physician,” he stated.

Areh also recalled Uduaghan’s vision of a Delta Beyond Oil, noting that the former governor believed in developing the state and its people beyond the wealth generated by crude oil.

Reflecting on his personal relationship with the deceased, Areh said the loss was particularly painful, describing Uduaghan as his boss, teacher and guiding light.

“I have lost my boss, my teacher, my light,” he said.

He further described the late politician as the “Physician of Delta” and a father figure to many, expressing confidence that his contributions to the state and the lives he touched would ensure that his memory endured.

“Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you touched,” Areh added.

He concluded the tribute with a prayer for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul, saying his light would never die.

Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from May 2007 to May 2015, completing two terms in office. Before becoming governor, he served as Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007.
