UYO, Nigeria — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned motorists against driving vehicles with missing, covered, or unreadable number plates, stressing that compliance with traffic regulations remains the surest way to avoid sanctions.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, issued the warning in a public awareness message, reminding road users that a vehicle’s number plate serves as its official means of identification and must always be visible and legible.
According to the police spokesperson, motorists whose number plates are missing, deliberately covered, or unreadable are already in violation of the law and may face enforcement action when stopped by security operatives.
“Your number plate is your vehicle’s identity. If it’s missing, covered, or unreadable, you’re already on the wrong side of compliance. As you know your rights, know the law too,” she said.
DSP John also cautioned against attempts by motorists to evade responsibility by claiming familiarity with police officers or senior officials.
“Save yourself the stress. If you’re stopped for a violation, ‘I know the PPRO’ won’t change the facts. Compliance is your best defence,” she added.
The warning forms part of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s ongoing public enlightenment campaign aimed at encouraging motorists to obey traffic and road safety regulations while promoting lawful conduct on the roads.
DSP Timfon John is the Police Public Relations Officer for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and is widely known for using traditional and digital media platforms to educate the public on policing, safety, and citizens’ responsibilities.
