The Benin and District Society (BDS) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has announced plans to hold its August 2026 Monthly General Meeting, featuring a technical session focused on the digital transformation of the accounting profession.

According to a notice issued by the district’s Technical Secretary, Edah Darlington, the session is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the ICAN District Secretariat on Alexandre Ogun Street, Sapele Road, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

The technical session, themed “Digitalising the Accounting Profession for Optimum Leverage,” is designed to equip members with practical knowledge and digital tools needed to enhance professional practice in an increasingly technology-driven business environment.

The organisers said participants will gain insights into the use of accounting software, artificial intelligence (AI) tools and automation to improve efficiency, while also learning strategies to remain competitive and relevant in the evolving digital economy.

The session will also provide networking opportunities with industry experts and fellow professionals, alongside an interactive question-and-answer segment where members can discuss challenges associated with digital adoption in the profession.

According to the notice, members in good standing who attend the programme will receive two credit hours for their Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) compliance.

The district leadership encouraged all members to attend, describing the programme as an important platform for strengthening professional capacity and positioning accountants to deliver greater value to clients, organisations and the wider economy.
