The Executive Chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving release of ₦8.4 billion to clear inherited contract debts owed to contractors of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).

Reacting to the development, Hon Ighrakpata said the approval is a significant step towards addressing long-standing financial obligations dating back more than a decade.

He described the Governor’s decision as a demonstration of his commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and fairness in governance.

“His Excellency’s approval of this payment underscores his dedication to ensuring that DESOPADEC’s contractors, who have waited patiently for years, receive the payments they are due.

“This move will not only restore confidence among contractors but also stimulate economic activity in Delta State, particularly in oil producing communities”, Hon Ighrakpata stated.

The IRS Boss emphasized that release of the funds aligns with the state’s efforts to encourage private sector participation in governance and foster development in the state.

He expressed optimism that the development will boost trust between the government and contractors, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic growth of Delta State’s oil-producing areas.

Hon Ighrakpata also highlighted the importance of conducting thorough audits to verify claims and ensure transparency in such payments, as directed by the Governor.
