The crisis within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a fresh twist on Friday as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, dissolved the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) led by former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Senator Ahmed Makarfi as Secretary.

The faction announced the dissolution during a meeting hosted by Wike at his Life Camp residence in Abuja, citing what it described as “loss of credibility, moral authority, and constitutional alignment” by the Wabara-led BoT.
At the meeting, which was presided over by the factional Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, a new BoT was inaugurated. Senator Mao Arukwe Ohuabunwa from Abia State was named the new BoT Chairman, while Hon. Isah Dansidi from the North was appointed Secretary.
Before the meeting went into a closed session, Muhammad explained that the reconstitution of the BoT was part of efforts to restore “discipline, order, and moral direction” within the PDP, which he claimed had been eroded under the previous leadership.
He accused the dissolved BoT of failing to live up to its role as the party’s “moral compass,” arguing that Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter over alleged anti-party activities made his continued leadership “untenable.”
“The Board that was meant to be the moral compass of our party became divided and ineffective. The credibility of that leadership was heavily questioned, and its continued role in national advisory matters became impossible to sustain,” Muhammad said.
The meeting also called for compliance with a recent Federal High Court order halting the party’s planned national convention.
Muhammad further blamed the tenure of the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, for the PDP’s “moral decline” and alleged disregard for judicial authority, accusing him of “protecting individuals who violated the party’s constitution and choosing convenience over the rule of law.”
