The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) announced that twenty-two (22) ships are currently discharging petroleum products and food-import consignments at the main Lagos gateways: the Apapa Port, Tincan Island Port and Lekki Deep‑Sea Port.
According to the NPA’s “Shipping Position” bulletin obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the manifest of the vessels includes frozen fish, petrol (gasoline), containers of general cargo, bulk sugar, buckwheat, ethanol, bulk urea, bulk gas and bulk wheat.
In addition to the 22 that have already arrived and begun discharge, the NPA noted that six more vessels are already on-site and waiting to berth with cargoes of bulk wheat and assorted goods.
Looking ahead, the agency expects a further seventeen (17) ships to arrive between October 29 and October 31. These incoming vessels are projected to carry additional petroleum products, food items and other bulk consignments including general cargo, buckwheat, bulk sugar, base oil, frozen fish, containers and petrol.
With these shipments, Lagos ports continue to serve as critical conduits for Nigeria’s fuel and food supply, alleviating imminent shortages and reinforcing national import-chains. The arrival of frozen fish and other food imports is particularly timely given concerns around local production shortfalls and rising consumer demand.
