The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against four officers captured in a viral video allegedly displaying unprofessional conduct and making derogatory ethnic remarks during a stop-and-search operation on the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the officers comprising one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and three Inspectors have been identified and taken into custody pending an orderly room trial.

The statement disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, directed the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation to determine the level of involvement of each officer and ensure appropriate disciplinary action is taken.

“The conduct shown in the video does not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said, stressing that ethnic profiling and disrespect toward any citizen would not be tolerated.

The police reiterated that officers who fall short of the Force’s standards of professionalism and respect would be held accountable for their actions.

The Force also reaffirmed its commitment to fair, ethical policing and to strengthening public trust through accountability and professionalism.
