The newly married wife of Aboy, the adopted son of Chibuzor Chinyere, General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM), has publicly explained her decision to accept the controversial marriage proposal.
In a video that has gone viral, the bride described her choice as a “sacrifice,” stating that she believed it was guided by divine instruction.
The marriage comes days after a public controversy involving the cleric, who had earlier announced financial incentives for any woman willing to marry Aboy. His initial remarks including a condition that a prospective bride “must not be autistic” sparked widespread criticism, with many describing the arrangement as transactional and insensitive.
Aboy, who is autistic, had been described by the pastor as being unable to speak or fully understand certain aspects of his physical development.
Following the backlash, Chinyere issued an apology, explaining that his actions were driven by concern for Aboy’s welfare.
On Sunday, the cleric confirmed that the wedding had taken place, sharing photos from the ceremony on his Facebook page. He had earlier disclosed that the bride, a single mother of three, would receive a N10 million wedding gift, a house, an overseas vacation, and a promise of N20 million after 10 years if Aboy remains alive.
Speaking after the ceremony, the bride revealed that she initially declined the proposal but later reconsidered after what she described as a spiritual prompting.
“By the grace of God, I am a member of OPM. When Daddy made the announcement, I didn’t show interest. But a few days later, I felt led by the Spirit to accept,” she said.
She described the marriage as a calling rooted in faith, adding: “It is a sacrifice… When I think about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, nothing is too big for me to do for God. I will care for him as my husband and also like a child.”
The woman further stated that she had previously turned down other marriage offers, choosing instead to wait for what she believed was God’s direction.
