Gunmen have abducted the wife and son of Yusuf Sani Alhassan, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims and apprehend those behind the attack.
Speaking on the development, the command’s spokesperson, Bashir Usman, said security agencies were working closely with relevant stakeholders to secure the safe release of the abducted family members.
“The Command is aware of the incident and is collaborating with relevant stakeholders towards ensuring the safe return of the victims,” Usman said.
“At this moment, the priority remains the rescue of the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
According to security sources, the abduction occurred at about 4 a.m. on Monday when armed men suspected to be kidnappers stormed the APC chairman’s residence in the Low Cost area of Yauri.
The attackers reportedly abducted Alhassan’s wife, Nana Aisha Yusuf, 35, and his 25-year-old son, Sanusi Yusuf, before fleeing to an unknown destination.
Sources said the gunmen, who were heavily armed, overpowered residents in the area during the operation and carried out the abduction without resistance.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) mobilised a joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the scene in a bid to track down the kidnappers and rescue the victims.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts in the area as investigations continue into the incident.
