Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the early hours of Sunday, June 7, 2026, when a devastating fire gutted Anambra Super Market, located opposite Market Square along Aduwawa Road in Benin City, Edo State.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire reportedly started on the third floor of the building before spreading rapidly through parts of the supermarket, engulfing goods and property in thick flames.
Videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke billowing from the building as residents and passersby gathered at the scene, watching helplessly as the inferno raged.
Despite the extent of the damage, no casualties were recorded. However, several goods and valuable properties were destroyed in the blaze.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown, while relevant authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
