A six-year-old Nigerian girl has tragically died after falling from a high-rise apartment building in Toronto, Canada, in an incident that has left residents of the community devastated.

The tragedy occurred around 8:15 p.m. at a residential complex on Chalkfarm Drive in North York, near Jane Street. Toronto police said officers responded to reports of “unknown trouble” before the child was discovered unresponsive outside the building.

Despite emergency efforts, the young girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbours described the child as cheerful, energetic, and well known within the apartment community. Many residents said they often saw her playing around the building and during morning school runs.

“She used to come here all the time and play. She was a lively kid. It’s very, very sad,” one resident told CP24.

Another resident said the incident had left many people in shock.

“It’s crazy that I will never see this child again. I see her every morning. It’s heartbreaking,” the neighbour said.

According to residents, the girl had reportedly been staying with a family friend who lives on the top floor of the building while her mother was in Nigeria at the time of the incident.

Some neighbours also questioned how the tragedy happened, noting that the building’s windows are said to have safety features designed to prevent them from opening fully.

Authorities have not yet released further details as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
