The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the Nigerian Armed Forces, working in coordination with the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), have carried out another round of airstrike operations targeting suspected ISWAP/ISIS fighters in North-East Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the latest coordinated strikes were conducted around the Metele axis following intelligence reports indicating the movement and convergence of terrorist elements in the area.
According to the DHQ, the operation led to the elimination of more than 20 suspected ISIS/ISWAP fighters.
The military said the strikes are part of ongoing counterterrorism operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and denying insurgent groups safe havens across the region.
The statement added that the latest operation followed the reported neutralisation of ISIS commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki during previous military actions.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will continue to aggressively defend the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the nation,” the statement read.
The DHQ further reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining operations against terrorist groups threatening communities and national stability.
