The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has clarified that Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, and former Delta State Secretary to the Government, Hon. Patrick Ukah, were not passengers aboard the Warri–Itakpe Train Service involved in a recent accident near Agbor.
In a statement issued by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the corporation acknowledged an error contained in an earlier communication and moved to correct the record.
According to the NRC, neither Senator Dafinone nor Ukah was on board the train at the time of the incident. Rather, both men played key roles in coordinating emergency response efforts following the accident.
The corporation noted that the two distinguished Nigerians were instrumental in mobilising first responders and other emergency personnel who participated in rescue operations at the scene.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation wishes to clarify that contrary to an earlier statement, Senator Ede Dafinone and Hon. Patrick Ukah were not passengers on board the Warri–Itakpe Train Service involved in the accident near Agbor,” the statement read.
The NRC expressed regret over the inadvertent error and extended its appreciation to both individuals for their prompt and selfless intervention during the rescue efforts.
The corporation also commended their support in ensuring a swift emergency response, describing their contributions as invaluable in the aftermath of the incident.
