Chairman of the Global Initiative Support Group for Sheriff Oborevwori 2027, Olorogun Josiah Ntekume, has described the just-concluded Economic/Investment Summit organised by the Delta State Government as a bold and timely initiative aimed at transforming the state into a stronger, investment-driven economy.
Ntekume, who spoke with journalists in Delta State, said the summit provided a platform for government, investors, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, development partners and local businesses to identify investment opportunities and explore practical ways of attracting capital into the state.
He said the initiative was more than a political gathering, stressing that its real value would be measured by its ability to stimulate business growth, create jobs and translate Delta State’s economic potential into tangible opportunities for its people.
«“For me, it is not just another political event. It is about creating the environment for businesses to grow, jobs to be created, and the state’s enormous economic potential to be converted into real opportunities for our people,” he said.»
According to Ntekume, the investment drive aligns with the broader economic objectives of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on economic growth, investment and job creation.
He noted that the initiative also complements Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda—More Prosperity, Opportunities, Roadmaps and Enhanced Peace and Security.
“A state government cannot create every job by itself. What government can do is provide the infrastructure, policies, security, incentives and confidence that encourage the private sector to invest. That is the direction Governor Oborevwori is pursuing,” he said.
Ntekume further described the summit as part of a broader partnership between the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Delta State Government’s MORE Agenda, saying both initiatives place economic development and improved opportunities at the centre of governance.
Deltans to Benefit
Speaking on the potential benefits of the summit, the APC chieftain said Deltans would ultimately be the major beneficiaries if the investment opportunities identified at the event translated into actual projects.
He explained that genuine investments would generate employment, create contracts, promote skills development, stimulate new businesses, facilitate technology transfer and increase economic activity across the state.
“Our young people stand to gain from jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities. Our small and medium-sized businesses can gain access to new markets and partnerships.
“Communities can benefit from economic activities around new investments, while the state itself benefits from a stronger revenue base,” he said.
Ntekume, however, cautioned that the success of the summit should not be judged by speeches, attendance or photographs, but by the actual investments attracted to Delta State, the number of jobs created and the expansion of businesses.
Ntekume Urges Local Contractors to Prepare
The political leader also urged local contractors in Delta State to position themselves to take advantage of opportunities that could emerge from the investment initiative.
He advised contractors to upgrade their capacity, maintain proper documentation, improve their professional standards and form strategic partnerships where necessary.
“I will strongly encourage our local contractors to position themselves for the opportunities that this initiative can create. Local contractors must not wait until outsiders come into Delta and take every opportunity.
“They should upgrade their capacity, maintain proper documentation, improve their professional standards and form strategic partnerships where necessary,” he advised.
According to him, the summit could expose local contractors to investors, developers, financial institutions and major companies seeking credible local partners.
He said such partnerships could result in construction contracts, supply opportunities, consultancy engagements, employment and long-term business relationships.
“My advice to our contractors is simple: don’t just attend the summit—prepare for the opportunities the summit can create,” Ntekume said.
2027 Election Should Be About Performance
On the 2027 general elections, Ntekume urged Deltans to focus on performance, continuity, competence and the future of the state rather than bitterness, propaganda and empty promises.
He said voters should assess what has been achieved by the present administration, what is ongoing and what can realistically be accomplished in the next administration.
“Deltans should look at what has been done, what is currently being done and what can realistically be achieved in the next administration. They should ask themselves: Who has demonstrated the capacity to provide stability, attract investment, create opportunities and continue the development of Delta State?” he said.
Ntekume reaffirmed the support of the Global Initiative Support Group for Governor Oborevwori’s 2027 bid, saying the group believes the governor deserves the opportunity to consolidate the gains of his administration and take the state further.
“As Chairman of the Global Initiative Support Group for Sheriff Oborevwori 2027, our position is clear: we believe Governor Sheriff Oborevwori deserves the opportunity to consolidate the gains of his administration and take Delta further,” he stated.
He urged Deltans to vote wisely and peacefully, basing their decisions on performance and development rather than propaganda and division.
“Delta deserves continuity where continuity is working. Delta deserves progress, and progress requires responsible leadership,” he added.
