BENIN CITY — Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her birthday, describing her as a strong advocate for women’s development, economic empowerment and inclusive governance.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, on Monday, September 21, 2026, the governor commended the First Lady for her years of public service and what he described as her contributions to issues affecting women, children and vulnerable members of society.
Okpebholo also praised Tinubu’s legislative experience and advocacy for greater participation of women in politics and public affairs.
According to the governor, the First Lady has distinguished herself through her commitment to issues relating to social policy, education, women’s economic participation and financial inclusion.
“Senator Remi Tinubu is that rare political figure—someone who has earned her place not through proximity to power, but through the sheer force of her convictions and the quality of her work,” Okpebholo said.
He noted that her years in the Senate provided opportunities for her to contribute to legislative debates and initiatives on matters affecting women and other vulnerable groups.
“In a Senate chamber that has historically been dominated by men, she did not merely occupy a seat, she did so with ideas, with presence, with moral authority,” the governor added.
Okpebholo further described the First Lady as an inspiration to younger women aspiring to pursue careers in politics and public service, saying her public engagements had demonstrated the importance of combining leadership responsibilities with concern for citizens.
“She has modeled what it means to balance the demands of high office with authentic concern for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. This is not easy work. It requires not just intelligence, but character,” he said.
The governor also acknowledged what he described as Tinubu’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly its economic reform programme and efforts aimed at addressing poverty and improving social welfare.
“Senator Remi Tinubu is not merely a supporter of Mr President’s agenda—she is an active participant in its advancement,” Okpebholo said.
He also highlighted the First Lady’s engagements in areas including women’s welfare, youth development and community support, saying her activities had provided an example for younger Nigerians interested in leadership and public service.
The Edo governor wished Senator Oluremi Tinubu good health, wisdom and strength as she marks another year, while expressing hope that she would continue to contribute to the causes she champions.
“May this birthday bring her joy, and may the years ahead bring her even greater opportunities to advance the courses she champions so ably,” Okpebholo said.
