PORT HARCOURT — The Young Progressive Party (YPP) has unveiled Amb. Blessing Fubara Snr. as its candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election, with the politician promising to bring a new approach to governance anchored on competence, innovation, economic renewal and political reconciliation.
Fubara, a Bachelor of Science degree holder in Community Development and Adult Education, is described by his political team as a professional with more than two decades of experience in value creation, strategic innovation, profit-driven initiatives and project development.
His emergence as the YPP candidate adds another dimension to the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Fubara, who previously made an appearance in Rivers State politics under the platform of the NDC, is presenting his latest political bid around what he describes as the need for a fresh direction in governance and a decisive reset of the state’s development agenda.
His campaign message is encapsulated in the slogan: “LET’S GET IT RIGHT — Yes, We Can!”
He also identifies with the people of the state through the message: “Our Rivers! Your Rivers!! My Rivers!!!”
According to the candidate and his supporters, the 2027 election should go beyond a contest between political platforms and focus on rebuilding public confidence in government, restoring the dignity of Rivers people and creating a leadership culture capable of converting the state’s human and economic resources into measurable development.
A New Political Conversation in Rivers South-East
Fubara’s candidacy is also expected to draw attention in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, where issues of political rotation, representation and power-sharing among the state’s three senatorial districts have remained part of the political conversation.
Supporters of the candidate argue that political expectations in the district have not always received the level of consideration they anticipated, making representation and inclusion central issues in the emerging campaign narrative.
Fubara’s candidacy, therefore, provides another platform for discussions around political participation and representation in the district.
Rather than presenting the issue as a campaign of exclusion or bitterness, his political message seeks to frame it around reconciliation, inclusion and renewed confidence in the democratic process.
The candidate’s supporters maintain that Rivers South-East should continue to have a strong political voice, while the state as a whole should move beyond recurring political confrontations and focus on development, economic opportunities and effective governance.
As the 2027 governorship race gradually takes shape, Fubara’s emergence has introduced another political platform and narrative into the contest, with the YPP candidate positioning himself around competence, renewal, reconciliation and what he describes as “getting it right” for Rivers State.
