Voting was reportedly disrupted at Modakeke Ward 10 in Osun State on Saturday after persons suspected to be policemen allegedly seized election materials and dispersed voters, election officials and party agents.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred after voting had initially proceeded peacefully at the polling area.
According to the witness, the suspected policemen allegedly took away the election materials before releasing what was described as tear gas, forcing voters and officials to flee the area.
“All the election agents and corps members took to their heels as soon as they arrived,” the witness said.
The incident reportedly triggered panic at the polling area, as election officials, party agents and voters hurried away from the scene for safety.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identity of the individuals alleged to have taken the election materials, could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
There was also no immediate official statement from the Nigeria Police Force or the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the reported disruption.
The incident comes amid heightened attention on the conduct of the Osun governorship election, with stakeholders calling for a peaceful and credible electoral process across the state.
