Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has called for sustained investment in education, stressing the need to equip children and young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence required to navigate present and future challenges.
Omo-Agege made the call while speaking on the importance of education and its role in shaping the future of society.
He said children and young people must be given the necessary educational foundation to prepare them for their responsibilities as future citizens, parents and workers.
According to him, society has both a moral and material responsibility to ensure that every child has access to an education system capable of preparing them to take control of their future.
“Our children are our future. We have a moral and material duty to see that children and young people are fully equipped to deal with the complexities and challenges which face them now and which they will meet as citizens; parents and workers in the future,” he said.
The former Deputy Senate President and Delta Central NDC Senatorial candidate stressed that education must be democratic, just, creative and compassionate, while also enabling students to take advantage of developments in science and technology safely and confidently.
He said investment in education should extend to children and adults from all backgrounds and communities, with emphasis on identifying, developing and nurturing their abilities.
“In pursuit of those objectives, we will invest in education so that the abilities of all children and adults from all home backgrounds and in every part of our state are discovered and nourished,” Omo-Agege said.
He further linked quality education to broader economic and social development, envisioning a society driven by purpose and equipped to compete in a rapidly changing global economy.
Omo-Agege said such a vision would require a modern welfare system, greater political accountability and a society confident of its place in the world.
He maintained that empowering citizens through education remains critical to achieving sustainable development and preparing the next generation for the opportunities and challenges of a technology-driven world.
