Gbagada, Lagos State — Panic gripped residents and commuters in Gbagada, Lagos State, on Thursday after a power distribution technician reportedly suffered an electric shock and sustained burns while working on an elevated power pole.
The incident left the technician trapped on a ladder attached to the pole, prompting an urgent rescue operation by his colleagues.
Footage of the incident, which has since circulated online, showed two field workers of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) attempting to rescue their colleague, who appeared to be in distress after the electric shock.
In the video, the technician could be seen hanging awkwardly on the elevated ladder, with his head facing downward while the lower part of his body remained positioned against the power pole.
Although he appeared severely affected by the incident, he could still be seen moving his arms and parts of his body as his colleagues carefully worked to bring him down.
The rescue operation reportedly attracted the attention of residents and passers-by, who watched anxiously as the workers tried to bring their colleague to safety.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the risks faced by electricity workers, particularly technicians who routinely work at height and around high-voltage infrastructure.
