ABUJA, Nigeria — Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has responded to singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over the ongoing political exchanges ahead of the Osun State governorship election, predicting that Governor Ademola Adeleke will lose his re-election bid.
Uzodinma’s remarks came after Davido publicly declared his confidence that his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), would secure another term in office. The award-winning singer had also criticized perceived attempts by political opponents to influence the outcome of the election, insisting that the people of Osun would decide their next governor at the polls.
Reacting to the singer’s comments, Uzodinma, who is the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), dismissed Davido’s optimism, expressing confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would reclaim Osun State.
In a pointed remark directed at the music star, Uzodinma said Davido should “prepare to sign your uncle as a dancer after the election loss,” suggesting that Governor Adeleke would be defeated in the forthcoming governorship contest.
The exchange is the latest in a series of political statements ahead of the Osun governorship election, which has attracted national attention amid heightened campaigns by both the APC and the PDP.
Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term in office on the platform of the PDP, while the APC is mounting a strong challenge in an effort to regain control of the state.
Political observers say the election remains one of the most closely watched off-cycle governorship contests in the country, with both major parties expressing confidence of victory.
