The late Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) Parry Osayande was among the pioneer set of students that sat for the School Certificate from Immaculate Conception College (ICC) in 1958, after which he joined the Nigeria Police, and rose to the enviable rank of a DIG before his retirement.

Parry Osayande was a renowned Nigerian police officer who retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police. Born on September 29, 1936, in Benin City, Edo State, he had a distinguished career in law enforcement, serving in various senior capacities, including:

Notable Positions:

Commissioner of Police in Bendel State during the infamous Lawrence Anini saga in the 1980s

Commissioner of Police in Benue and Cross River States.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission, appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan

Key Achievements:

Led operations to suppress religious-inspired riots in Bauchi and Kano

Headed a federal government delegation to Namibia under the United Nations. Transition Assistance Group to ensure a smooth transition to independence in 1992

Played a significant role in police reforms as Chairman of the Police Service Commission

Awards and Honors:

Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR)

Officer of the Order of the Niger (OFR)

Nigerian Police Medal (NPM)

Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Administration, England

Sadly, Parry Osayande passed away on September 28, 2025, just a day before his 89th birthday

He was an avid golfer and a scion of the Benin royal family.

Our condolences to his immediate family, the Police Commission and to Immaculate Conception College ICCOBA worldwide on the sad loss.
