The political landscape of Delta Central Senatorial District witnessed a significant moment as Ede Dafinone formally declared his intention to seek a second term in the Senate, drawing widespread attention and support from within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration event, held in Ughelli, attracted a large crowd of party faithful, stakeholders, and grassroots supporters, signalling strong backing for Dafinone’s continued representation. The gathering, which took place at Oharisi Primary School, reflected a sense of unity within the APC in Delta Central and underscored growing consensus around his candidacy.
Far from being a routine political announcement, the event carried deeper meaning. The turnout and enthusiasm suggested confidence in Dafinone’s leadership and a belief among supporters that his first term has delivered measurable results. Many attendees viewed the declaration as both an endorsement of his performance and a call for continuity.
In his address, Dafinone emphasized values such as service, accountability, and integrity, linking his approach to the legacy of his late father, David Dafinone. His remarks framed his political journey as one grounded in principle and responsibility rather than ambition alone.
The event also featured strong endorsements from influential APC figures across the district. Party leaders, including Paulinus Akpeki, Ighoyota Amori, and O’tega Emerhor, publicly aligned with Dafinone’s second-term bid. Their support highlighted what appears to be a solid internal consensus within the party’s Delta Central structure.
In addition, the gathering saw expressions of support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 elections, positioning Dafinone within a broader political alignment at both state and national levels.
Beyond party endorsements, Dafinone’s supporters point to his track record as a key factor driving his popularity. Across the eight local government areas in Delta Central, his interventions in infrastructure and community development have been widely noted. Projects such as the installation of transformers and solar-powered street lights have addressed practical needs in underserved communities.
His focus on human capital development has also featured prominently. Initiatives like the establishment of ICT centres in schools across Effurun, Ugbokodo, Orhuwhorun, and Ogor reflect efforts to equip young people with digital skills. These programmes, alongside educational support initiatives, are seen as investments in the district’s long-term growth.
Economic empowerment has been another pillar of his tenure. Through the distribution of tools and equipment—including sewing machines, generators, and agricultural resources—many constituents have gained opportunities for self-reliance. Supporters argue that these interventions have helped cushion the effects of broader economic challenges while promoting local enterprise.
In the health sector, medical outreach programmes facilitated by Dafinone have provided free services to thousands, addressing critical healthcare gaps. His engagement during periods of hardship has also reinforced his connection with constituents, demonstrating responsiveness and accessibility.
Dafinone’s professional background as an economist and chartered accountant is frequently cited as an asset, particularly in navigating complex policy and economic issues at the national level. Observers note that his contributions in the Senate reflect both technical expertise and legislative experience.
As the APC moves closer to its primaries, momentum behind Dafinone’s re-election bid continues to build. For many within the party and across the district, the argument for continuity centres on sustaining ongoing projects and consolidating progress already made.
