President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that his administration is making significant progress in tackling insecurity, reviving the economy, and strengthening democratic institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The President gave the assurance while receiving the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, led by its President, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, at the State House in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, Tinubu said ongoing reforms in the nation’s security architecture are already yielding results and expressed confidence that banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism would be decisively defeated. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace across the country to enable citizens to live and conduct their businesses without fear.

On the economy, the President stated that Nigeria is gradually recovering from years of fiscal challenges, noting that tough economic reforms have placed the country on a more stable financial path. He maintained that the administration remains focused on sustaining growth, improving public finances, and creating opportunities for Nigerians.

Tinubu also assured the bishops that the Federal Government would continue investing in social intervention programmes designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship. He specifically highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a critical initiative aimed at expanding access to higher education and empowering young Nigerians.

Addressing concerns about the nation’s democracy, the President reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the 2027 general elections are free, fair, transparent, and credible. He stressed that his administration would uphold democratic principles and guarantee that the will of the people prevails at the polls.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both the President and the Catholic bishops to discuss national issues, including security, economic development, education, and the role of religious leaders in promoting peace, unity, and good governance across the country.
