President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, that he would not regret his decision to support his re-election bid in the 2027 general election.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Saturday while addressing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Mega Rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“Fubara, you will not regret what you have done,” the President declared, following the governor’s public endorsement of his second-term ambition.
Fubara had earlier pledged that Rivers State would deliver three million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, signalling his commitment to the President’s re-election campaign.
The governor’s declaration is particularly significant against the backdrop of his prolonged political disagreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, his predecessor, which plunged Rivers State into a major political crisis.
The political feud between Fubara and Wike had generated considerable tension within the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the governor facing political opposition from lawmakers and other influential figures believed to be loyal to the former governor.
Despite the crisis and the political uncertainty surrounding his relationship with Wike, Fubara’s latest declaration of support for Tinubu appears to signal a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
The President’s reassuring words to Fubara at the rally have also drawn attention to the evolving political dynamics in Rivers State, particularly as political stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
The mega rally attracted APC governors, party leaders, political stakeholders and supporters from across the state, as the ruling party intensified its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
