President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC on winning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title for a record ninth time.
In a statement issued on May 25, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the club’s management, players, and supporters for finishing the league campaign at the top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of closest rivals, Rivers United.
The President recalled the glorious era of Rangers in the 1970s and 1980s when the Enugu-based club dominated domestic football and achieved continental success.
He specifically referenced the club’s appearance in the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and its triumph in the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977.
Tinubu also commended Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, describing the club’s latest success as evidence of the administration’s commitment to youth and sports development.
According to the President, Rangers remains one of Nigeria’s most historic football clubs, having produced several outstanding players who represented the country with distinction on the international stage.
He further praised Rivers United for their impressive performance throughout the season and for displaying sportsmanship during the competition.
President Tinubu wished both Rangers International FC and Rivers United success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
