Former Niger Delta militant leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has called for calm and a peaceful resolution of the ongoing tensions surrounding the ward delineation dispute in the Warri Federal Constituency.
In a statement issued on June 9, 2026, Tompolo expressed concern over the mass action embarked upon by peaceful women and youths from various communities who have occupied oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri River areas since June 8.
According to him, many well-meaning Nigerians have continued to appeal for dialogue and restraint, a position he fully supports.
“The Ijaw nation has from time immemorial been known for its peaceful disposition, and we cannot afford to deviate from that history,” he stated.
Tompolo noted that the current political situation, which arose from the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency, should not be allowed to degenerate into violence or be hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives.
He appealed to all parties involved to remain calm regardless of the circumstances and called for an immediate meeting of community leaders to chart a peaceful way forward.
“We must all join hands in seeking a peaceful resolution to this impasse,” he said.
The Ijaw leader further urged INEC to act responsibly and take the necessary steps to restore peace and confidence among the affected communities.
He also appealed to residents of Warri and its environs—including Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo communities—to exercise patience while awaiting the commission’s actions on the matter.
Tompolo reiterated that dialogue, mutual understanding and respect for due process remain the best path toward lasting peace and stability in the area.
The statement was signed by High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
