Senator Ede Omueya Dafinone has strongly condemned the reported extrajudicial killing of Oghenemine Million Ogidi, a 28-year-old resident of Ujevwu in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Ogidi was allegedly killed on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, an incident that has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the conduct of security personnel. Describing the act as “heinous and unacceptable,” Dafinone emphasized that the protection of human life must remain the foremost duty of law enforcement agencies.
The senator extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the Udu community, noting the pain and trauma associated with such a loss. He stressed that no family should have to endure the death of a loved one under avoidable circumstances, pledging solidarity with those seeking justice.
Dafinone called on the Nigeria Police Force leadership, including the Inspector General of Police and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, to initiate a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. He urged authorities to ensure that any officer found culpable is held accountable under the law.
He also assured constituents that his office would engage closely with police authorities to monitor the progress of the investigation and advocate for justice.
While urging security agencies to act swiftly, the senator appealed to residents of Udu and the wider public to remain calm and law-abiding, allowing due process to take its course. He further called on all security personnel to uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to established rules of engagement, stressing that their primary responsibility is to protect lives and respect citizens’ rights.
The incident adds to ongoing national conversations about accountability and reform within Nigeria’s security architecture.
