The killing of a 28-year-old man, Oghenemine Million Ogidi, in Effurun, Delta State, has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Ogidi, a native of Ujevwu in Udu Local Government Area, was reportedly shot on April 26, 2026, in what many observers and community members have described as a suspected extrajudicial killing.

Condemning the incident, Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, described the loss as tragic and unacceptable. He emphasized that the sanctity of human life must be upheld at all times, particularly by security agencies entrusted with the protection of citizens.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family as they navigate this profound loss,” the senator said, while calling for accountability and justice.

Dafinone urged the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in Delta State to immediately commence a transparent and comprehensive investigation. He stressed the need to ensure that any officer found culpable is held responsible.

While calling for swift action, the senator also appealed to residents of Udu and the wider public to remain calm and law-abiding, allowing due process to take its course.

Meanwhile, human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu visited the family of the deceased, describing their situation as deeply distressing. According to him, Ogidi’s mother revealed that this is the second son she has lost under similar circumstances involving the police.

She recounted that her first son was arrested in 2022 and later died, with authorities attributing his death to a gunfire exchange—an account she disputes.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about alleged police brutality and the urgent need for accountability within law enforcement agencies.

Observers say the case highlights broader issues surrounding the use of force and the protection of citizens’ rights, as calls intensify for justice for the Ogidi family.
