The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, on Wednesday led a high-powered delegation of UBEC management and Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) on an inspection tour of selected digital education facilities in Asaba, Delta State.
The inspection, which covered Uzoigwe Primary School and the headquarters of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (D-SUBEB), was part of activities marking the 30th Quarterly Meeting of basic education stakeholders in Nigeria, held at Unity Hall, Delta State Government House, Asaba.
The delegation comprised the Deputy Executive Secretary of UBEC, Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as senior education officials.
Hosted by the Executive Chairman of D-SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, the team was taken through Delta State’s technology-driven initiatives aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes, strengthening education administration and promoting data-driven decision-making.
At Uzoigwe Primary School, the delegation inspected a technology-enabled learning environment where modern digital tools are integrated into classroom instruction and the school curriculum.
The facilities support interactive teaching, digital content delivery and virtual connectivity, allowing pupils to access learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom environment.
The officials were also introduced to Delta State’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-enabled education ecosystem, known as Attend360. The platform operates on a dedicated server where language models are trained and managed, creating an integrated digital environment for teaching, learning and education administration.
Through real-time data, Attend360 enables education managers to monitor school activities, strengthen planning and make informed decisions aimed at improving service delivery across the basic education sector.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Garba expressed appreciation to the pupils and parents who came out during the school holiday to welcome the delegation.
She described the reception as heartwarming and commended the pupils for their discipline, respect and exemplary conduct, noting that such values demonstrate the quality of academic and moral instruction provided by the school.
The UBEC Executive Secretary also praised the youthful teaching workforce, saying their energy and capacity to embrace digital innovation positioned them to play a significant role in advancing technology-enabled teaching and learning in Nigeria’s basic education system.
The delegation subsequently proceeded to the D-SUBEB headquarters, where officials demonstrated the Attend360 digital attendance management platform.
The system provides real-time monitoring of staff attendance and forms part of Delta State’s broader digital transformation efforts to improve accountability, workforce management and operational efficiency in the delivery of basic education.
Speaking on the significance of the visit, Mariere said it underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation and the exchange of best practices among education stakeholders.
He said the engagement provided an opportunity for other states to understudy Delta’s digital education initiatives and explore ways of adapting similar solutions to their respective environments.
According to him, the visit further reinforced the commitment of UBEC and SUBEBs to leveraging technology to improve access, quality and governance in basic education, in line with the renewed drive of the federal and state governments to strengthen the sector.
The inspection tour therefore served as both a demonstration of Delta State’s digital education innovations and a platform for knowledge-sharing among education managers from across Nigeria.
