25 Nigerian Delegates to Engage US Lawmakers on Global “End Wars Now” Campaign

The United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD) has called on world leaders involved in armed conflicts to immediately cease hostilities and embrace dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of disputes.

The organisation made the call in a statement signed by Kelechi Esogwa-Amadi, Media Assistant to the Head of Policy and Diplomatic Relations and Director, South-South/South-East Region, UN-WCD, Amb. Dr. Larry-Goodwill Akintoba Ajiola.

The group said lasting global peace could only be achieved through diplomacy and dialogue anchored on justice, equity and fairness, rather than through war, intimidation and hostility.

According to the UN-WCD, prolonged conflicts deepen humanitarian crises, fuel hatred, suspicion and mistrust, disrupt international relations and negatively affect trade, investment, economic growth and development.

It noted that the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16, which focuses on peace, justice and strong institutions, provides a framework for promoting peaceful and inclusive societies as a foundation for sustainable development.

The organisation expressed concern over the continued conflicts and tensions in different parts of the world, warning that civilians, including women, children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups, continue to bear the greatest burden of armed conflicts.

“Enough of this carnage. Enough of war. Enough of global geopolitical tensions and socio-economic uncertainty,” the organisation said.

The UN-WCD specifically called for an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, US-Iran hostilities, Israel-Palestine tensions and tensions on the Korean Peninsula, urging the parties involved to return to the negotiating table.

It appealed to the leaders concerned to put aside pride, ego and differences and embrace negotiations in the interest of their citizens and humanity.

The organisation also referenced the position of the late Israeli Prime Minister, Yitzhak Rabin, that peace and reconciliation are achieved with enemies rather than friends, urging leaders to demonstrate the courage required to pursue reconciliation despite past provocations.

Beyond international conflicts, the UN-WCD called on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and other armed groups to abandon violence and allow peace and stability to prevail in communities around the world.

The organisation said it was prepared to provide mediation support where necessary, stressing that its mission was centred on promoting global unity, peace and progress through diplomacy.

Meanwhile, the UN-WCD disclosed that a delegation of 25 Nigerian representatives is set to engage lawmakers in the United States as part of its global “End Wars Now” peace campaign.

According to the organisation, the engagement is aimed at advocating concrete action to end conflicts and redirect resources towards citizens’ welfare, education, humanitarian assistance and human development.

The UN-WCD further appealed to the United Nations, the US Congress, the African Union and governments across the world to work collectively towards immediate ceasefires, meaningful peace negotiations and adequate funding for post-war reconstruction and rehabilitation.

The organisation maintained that world leaders must choose dialogue over destruction, development over weapons and peace over political interests.

The statement was dated August 12, 2026.
