Ugandan authorities have detained 62 Nigerian nationals over allegations of illegally religious activities and immigration breaches. The arrests were carried out by the country’s National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC) following intelligence reports indicating that the group was running a church without the necessary authorization.
According to an official statement shared on Wednesday via the agency’s X (formerly Twitter) account, the individuals were not only operating the religious center unlawfully but were also residing and working in Uganda without valid permits.
The NCIC stated that the operation was prompted by a tip-off, which led officials to investigate and subsequently apprehend the suspects. Authorities say further action may follow in line with Uganda’s immigration and labor laws.
