The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has received a multi-million-dollar donation of Jewel Suite software, hardware, and workstations from Baker Hughes, a leading multinational company in the petroleum, oil and gas industry.

According to the Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the University, the donation was formally presented to the institution’s management for use at the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering, where it will support the training of postgraduate students.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the University Management, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, expressed profound appreciation to Baker Hughes and particularly commended the team lead, Mr. David Odofin, for facilitating the initiative.

The Vice Chancellor, as quoted by the Public Relations and Protocol Unit, described the gesture as timely and impactful, noting that it complements the University’s commitment to producing industry-ready graduates equipped with relevant practical skills.

On his part, Mr. Odofin explained that Baker Hughes has a longstanding relationship with the University and has previously donated equipment as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. He noted that the current donation of essential software and hardware to the Centre of Excellence was in response to the Vice Chancellor’s vision of ensuring graduates are well-skilled and competitive in the job market.

The handover ceremony was attended by Principal Officers of the University, the Director of the Centre of Excellence, Professor Difference Ogagurue, as well as other senior management staff from Baker Hughes.
