DAAR Communications Plc, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT), have dismissed reports that the station has shut down its Lagos operations.

The clarification comes amid reports that the broadcast outfit is facing financial and operational challenges, allegedly forcing it to close its Lagos bureau.

In a telephone conversation with TheCable, Collins Uwaeze, marketing executive at DAAR Communications, described the report as “very untrue”.

Uwaeze assured staff members that their jobs are secure, adding that the company is rightsizing to improve workflow and efficiency.

“The report of AIT Lagos closure is very untrue. What we have is a realignment aimed at making the company more efficient,” Uwaeze said.

“We are rightsizing to ensure optimal operations, but the jobs of our staff are still intact.”

A staff member who did not want to be named told TheCable that the station was still on air, noting that some restructurings are ongoing.

“It’s not true that AIT Lagos has shut down. The station is still broadcasting. What’s happening is downsizing and multitasking—people are doing more roles to keep operations running,” the source said.
