BENIN CITY — The management of Igbinedion Education Centre has confirmed that two students involved in a viral video showing the bullying and physical assault of another student have been expelled from the school.
The disturbing video, which has been circulating widely on social media, shows the victim being physically attacked and injured by fellow students, sparking public outrage.
In a statement released by the school management and reported by Ozioruva Aliu, the institution condemned the incident and reaffirmed its strict stance against violence and intimidation among students.
“We are aware of a video currently circulating online showing a serious incident of bullying and physical assault involving students at the school,” the statement said.
“The behaviour shown in the video is deeply disturbing and stands in direct violation of the values and standards we uphold. The school maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment, and any form of violence.”
According to the management, an internal investigation was immediately conducted after the incident came to light.
“Following an immediate investigation, the students responsible have been expelled from the school with immediate effect. Such conduct will never be tolerated within our school community,” the statement added.
The school also assured that its priority remains the safety and wellbeing of students, noting that support is being provided to those affected while the institution works with the families involved.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, urged the victim and his parents to formally report the matter to enable police investigation.
“I have seen the video, and the only thing I can say for now is that the boy and his parents should come forward and make a complaint so that an investigation can begin,” Ikoedem said.
The school management also disclosed that the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and that it is cooperating fully, noting that the students involved are minors.
