Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on residents of Orhionwon Local Government Area to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, declaring that a vote for the President would also amount to a vote of confidence in his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okpebholo made the call during an APC campaign rally in Abudu, the headquarters of Orhionwon LGA, where he urged residents to remain loyal to the ruling party and support its progressive agenda.
Addressing the crowd, the governor said the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, were beginning to yield benefits for the country.
“A vote for President Tinubu is a vote for Okpebholo. It is a vote for APC and a vote for the progress of this country,” he declared.
He defended the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a necessary step towards rescuing Nigeria’s economy from the control of a few individuals.
According to him, the resources saved from the policy have strengthened the government’s ability to meet its financial obligations, including the payment of workers’ salaries.
“The removal of fuel subsidy is the redemption of this country because Nigeria’s resources were in the hands of a few individuals. The gains of that action are why we are able to pay salaries today. We are working and developing the country,” the governor said.
He urged residents to recognise the gains of the Federal Government’s economic policies, arguing that the reforms were creating opportunities for governments at all levels to fulfil their responsibilities and deliver development.
Meanwhile, residents of Orhionwon South expressed excitement over the governor’s approval of an electrification project for the area, which they said had been without electricity for more than 25 years.
The residents described the approval as a major breakthrough, expressing hope that the project would end decades of darkness, boost economic activities and improve living conditions in their communities.
They also commended the governor for responding to their longstanding demand, describing the decision as evidence of his administration’s commitment to extending development to rural communities.
Other prominent APC leaders at the rally included Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Director-General of the Edo State APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Matthew Uroghide; former Deputy Governors, Dr Pius Odubu and Dr Lucky Imasuen; and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The party leaders called for unity among members and urged residents to sustain their support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rally also witnessed the defection of new members into the APC. The party’s Deputy State Chairman, Sylvester Aigbobor, formally received the defectors into the party.
