Yakubu Mohammed, a co-founder of the now-defunct Newswatch magazine, has passed away at the age of 75.
His death comes barely two months after the loss of another Newswatch co-founder and respected journalist, Dan Agbese, who died on November 17, 2025, marking a period of deep mourning within Nigeria’s media community.
Mohammed, a seasoned journalist and media entrepreneur, recently launched his memoir titled Beyond Expectations on November 4, 2025, offering reflections on his life, career, and contributions to journalism.
He was said to have been battling a prolonged illness before his death.
Tributes have begun to pour in from colleagues, friends, and admirers, many of whom described him as a principled journalist and a key figure in shaping investigative and independent journalism in Nigeria through Newswatch.
