Delta State House of Assembly has commended the Ministry of Environment and the State Waste Management Board for their proactive measures in ensuring environmental sustainability.

The Chairman Assembly Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas, Hon Festus Utuama, gave the commendation when officials of the Ministry of Environment and the Delta State Waste Management Board appeared before members to present and justify their 2026 budget proposals.

Hon. Utuama, flanked by Hon. Emeka  Osamuta, Hon. Festus  Okoh, Hon. Matthew  Omonade and Hon. Bino  Owhede, praised both teams for what he described as “well‑articulated and unambiguous” presentations.

The lawmaker who represents Ughelli South constituency said the clarity of their 2025 budget performance and 2026 projections reflected a firm grasp of their responsibilities and a commitment to delivering on their mandates.

According to him, the committee was satisfied with the depth of the presentations and would “carefully examine the proposals with the aim of appropriating the necessary funds” to ensure effective operations in the coming fiscal year.

Speaking shortly after the session, the Commissioner, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, expressed delight with the robust interaction, noting that the engagement had reinforced his optimism that the Assembly Committee would give due consideration to the ministry’s needs.

He reiterated that the Ministry of Environment would scale up programmes on environmental sustainability in 2026, in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

Waste Management Board Chairman, Hon. Matthew  Mofe  Edema, lauded Governor Oborevwori for the unwavering support extended to the board throughout the outgoing year.

He said the backing from the state government empowered the board to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment statewide.

Edema disclosed that the board would intensify routine waste evacuation across the State Capital Territory and other major towns, as well as strengthen dumpsite management and public sensitization campaigns in the coming year to achieve improved environmental outcomes.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ejiro Jamani, led a delegation of senior ministry officials, while the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, was accompanied by board members and management staff to the exercise.
