Senator Ede Dafinone of Delta Central Senatorial District has called on Urhobo youths to embrace civility and responsible conduct in political engagement as the 2027 general elections approach.

In a message marking the Easter season, Senator Dafinone emphasized the importance of reflection, renewal, and adherence to shared values, noting that recent political discourse especially on social media has taken a troubling turn.

He expressed concern over the increasing use of personal attacks and inflammatory remarks by some youths in their efforts to support preferred candidates. According to him, such behavior undermines the long-standing cultural values of the Urhobo people, which are rooted in respect, dignity, and mutual regard.

The senator urged young people to channel their passion for politics in a more constructive manner by promoting issue-based discussions and maintaining respect for differing opinions. He stressed that political participation should be guided by maturity and decorum, warning against allowing political differences to erode unity within the community.

Dafinone also highlighted that civility is a sign of strength and character, not weakness, adding that he has consistently upheld these principles throughout his political career despite facing criticism and provocation.

He further reminded youths that political alliances can shift over time, noting that today’s rivals may become tomorrow’s partners. As such, he cautioned against actions or statements that could damage relationships or tarnish the collective image of the Urhobo nation.

The lawmaker concluded by encouraging youths to lead by example—engaging responsibly, speaking respectfully, and acting with integrity while wishing the public a peaceful and meaningful Easter celebration.
