Romuald Wadagni, Benin’s finance minister, has been elected president in a decisive landslide victory, according to provisional election results, marking a new chapter in the country’s political and economic trajectory.

At 49, Wadagni represents a younger generation of leadership but is widely seen as a candidate of continuity. He has played a central role in shaping Benin’s economic policies in recent years, serving under outgoing president Patrice Talon.

His victory signals a continuation of Talon’s reform-driven agenda, which has overseen nearly a decade of steady economic expansion, improved infrastructure, and a growing tourism sector in the coastal West African nation. Under this administration, Benin has gained recognition for fiscal discipline and business-friendly policies that have attracted investment and boosted development.

Wadagni’s presidency is expected to build on these gains while addressing ongoing challenges such as job creation, social inclusion, and sustaining economic momentum.

The election outcome reinforces Benin’s current policy direction, as the country looks to consolidate its progress and strengthen its position as one of West Africa’s emerging economic success stories.
