Correctional officer Justina Otalu has underscored the importance of teamwork, mutual respect, and compassion in the workplace, saying that the most effective partnerships are built on trust rather than hierarchy.
In a post shared on her Facebook page, Otalu said the value of any workplace lies not in titles or rank but in the relationships colleagues build through understanding, cooperation, and a shared commitment to service.
According to her, while seniority plays an important role in providing guidance, it should never become a barrier to collaboration or mutual support among co-workers.
“Not every great partnership is built on rank; many are built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to serve,” she wrote.
Reflecting on workplace experiences, Otalu noted that some of the most fulfilling days at work are not necessarily those with the lightest workload but those spent alongside supportive colleagues who make the challenges easier to bear.
“Some of the best days at work are not because the tasks are easy but because we have colleagues who make the journey lighter. When people work with understanding, communicate well and support one another, seniority becomes a guide rather than a barrier,” she stated.
She further stressed that regardless of profession including the correctional service—the true strength of any institution lies in the character, teamwork, and compassion demonstrated by its personnel.
“Whether we wear this uniform in correctional service or any other profession, our greatest strength is not the uniform itself—it is the character, teamwork and compassion we bring into it every day,” she added.
Otalu concluded by paying tribute to colleagues who inspire excellence, encourage one another, and make public service more meaningful through collaboration.
She also wished workers across different professions a productive and blessed day, encouraging them to continue fostering unity and mutual support in their respective workplaces.
