The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-styled spiritualist, Odigie Moses, over his alleged involvement in a sextortion scheme that reportedly netted him $1,100.
The suspect was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, following an investigation by the anti-graft agency.
According to the EFCC, Moses allegedly posed online as a spiritual healer, claiming to possess supernatural powers capable of solving personal and life-threatening challenges. He reportedly came into contact with an Indian woman who sought his spiritual assistance.
The Commission alleged that during the purported spiritual consultation, the suspect deceived the woman into taking a nude spiritual bath, which he secretly recorded without her consent. He allegedly threatened to release the explicit video publicly unless she paid him money.
Investigations revealed that the victim eventually paid the suspect $1,100 to prevent the video from being circulated.
The EFCC said Moses will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
